Description

Students of The Dance Studio at Hollin Hall are taught by one of the area’s most experienced and expert teachers. Julie Houghton is a former professional dancer with Erika Thimey’s Washington Dance Theatre, Ethel Butler’s Washington Dancers in Repertory, and the Fairfax County Dance Company, where she served as artistic director, performer and choreographer for 12 years.

Mrs. Houghton brings extensive teaching experience that includes formerly being an assistant professorial lecturer in dance at George Washington University, adjunct faculty instructor at the Northern Virginia Community College, and also serving on the dance faculty of Fairfax County’s Summer Enrichment Institute for the Arts and the Dance Workshops of Fairfax County.

In addition to teaching dance for the Fairfax County’s Recreation Department for more than two decades, she has taught dance at the Erika Thimey Dance Studio in D.C., the Madeira School, and the Washington Theatre Club.

From 1990-92, she received an Artist-in-Residence grant to promote and enhance the dance strand in the physical education program of studies for the Fairfax County elementary schools. She also helped to standardize the syllabus for the Recreation Department’s countywide ballet classes.
